BEAVERTON, Ore. – After Saturday’s game in which Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy U-15/16 clinched the Southwest Division and West Conference, the team suffered a letdown loss in a game that had no bearing on the standings. Due to a combination of injuries, players called up to National Team camps and Real Salt Lake Reserve League matches, the U-15/16 team trotted out a makeshift lineup on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half in Beaverton, the accumulation of the weekend’s matches on artificial fields, miles travelled and terrible weather conditions caught up with RSL-AZ, as Portland ran away with the game and took home a 5-0 victory. A goal from John Chambers in addition to braces from Rene Hernandez and Reid Baez led Portland to the win.
Real Salt Lake-Arizona U-15/16 will look to regain their strong form in time for the United States Soccer Development Academy Playoffs, taking place from June 23-27 at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. RSL-AZ U-15/16 will enter the Playoffs as the first place team in the Southwest Division and West Conference.
