Real Salt Lake- Arizona Academy teams falter at Dallas and Generation Adidas cup

Casa Grande, Arizona – Real Salt Lake- Arizona U-17/18 finished off a strong performance at the Dallas Cup Wednesday, just barely missing out on an opportunity to move on to the semi-final game of the tournament. Meanwhile, RSL-AZ U-15/16 were narrowly defeated in the 2015-16 Generation Adidas Cup: Premier Division.

RSL-AZ U-17/18 kicked off the Dallas Cup with a 2-1 win over Kyoto Sanga FC on Sunday, and quickly turned around to garner a 1-0 win over Mexican opponents Sinergia Deportiva Tigres the next day.

Wednesday, RSL-AZ faced one of its most anticipated opponents, Everton FC from England. Real Salt Lake- Arizona fought to attain its third win of the tournament and guarantee its passage into the semi-final round of the Dallas Cup, but the Toffees proved to be a tough opponent.

Everton won the encounter 3-1, tying Real Salt Lake- Arizona with 6 points each, but the English side clinched the top spot in the group and moved to the semi-final on goals differential (Everton +2, RSL-AZ 0). RSL-AZ still had an opportunity to progress to the semi-final as the best second placed team in the group stage of the competition, however FC Dallas’ stoppage time winner against Middlesbrough FC in the last match of Group C saw them go through to the next phase.

On the RSL-AZ U-15/16 side, the team fell to Generation Adidas Cup: Premier Division finalists, CA Paranaense, pushing them to fight for the fifth place spot.

RSL-AZ started off the weekend in spectacular fashion, defeating Houston Dynamo 1-0 on Friday, and D.C. United 3-1 Sunday. But, an unfortunate 1-0 defeat at the hands of CA Paranaense Tuesday, knocked RSL-AZ U-15/16 out from placing in the top four teams of the tournament.

Instead, the team played a fifth place match against FC Tokyo on Thursday. RSL-AZ U-15/16 once again fought hard, but came up short with a 2-1 defeat against the team from Japan.

Both Real Salt Lake- Arizona teams will return to Casa Grande for games against Crossfire Premier and Seattle Sounders April 9 and 16 respectively.
