CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy looks to extend both of its two-match winning streaks headed into this weekend’s slate of games in Washington against the Sounders and Crossfire while the Elites set out to continue their strong start to the Arizona State League season.
RSL-AZ U-17/18 (3-0-1) open the weekend against Seattle Sounders FC (2-1-1) at Starfire Sports Complex in a rematch from the group stage of last year’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs, where the Sounders eliminated the Claret-and-Cobalt with a 3-1 win in Indiana.
The 18s then take on Crossfire Premier (2-1-1) on Sunday at Redmond High School. Last season, RSL-AZ U-17/18 defeated Crossfire 3-0 at Grande Sports World.
RSL-AZ U-15/16 (2-1-1) looks to continue their hot run of form against a struggling Sounders U-15/16 (1-1-2) team who find themselves on the outside looking in on playoff position in the early weeks of the USSDA season.
The Crossfire Premier (2-2-0) 16s will look to avenge last year’s 2-0 loss at the hands of the Claret-and-Cobalt in Arizona against a white-hot RSL-AZ who have outscored their opponents 5-0 in their last 160 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, the Elites head north to Phoenix for the next round of Arizona State League fixtures. Real Salt Lake-Arizona Elite U-16 (0-0-1) search for their first win of the State League season against United Latinos (1-1-1) at Quail Run Sports Complex on Saturday.
That match is followed by RSL-AZ Elite U-18 (2-0-0) taking on CCV Stars (0-2-1). The Elite 18s will look to show off their improved play against CCV after their 2-3 loss to the Stars earlier this season at the Tuzos Soccer Challenge.
RSL-AZ Elite U-17 (1-0-0) finish up the weekend’s games in Arizona against AZ Arsenal SC (1-0-2). The 17s opened State League play in dominant fashion, beating Legacy 7-0 in their first game of the season.
