MAFRA, Portugal – Following a 1-1 draw against Benfica U-19 last Tuesday, the U-18 USMNT featured Grande Sports Academy players Sebastian Saucedo and Brooks Lennon in their 0-0 draw with Norway and 2-0 loss to Portugal in their first two matches of the 20th Lisbon International Tournament.
Against Norway, Sebastian Saucedo played the full 90 minutes while Brooks Lennon was a 77th minute substitute for Coy Craft. The loss to Portugal featured more of the same when Saucedo once again started and played 90 minutes while Lennon came on as a substitute in the 59th minute, this time for Demakwi Yomba.
After 160 minutes of scoreless soccer on both ends for the USA, Portugal ended the drought with a goal from substitute Goncalo Guedes in the 71st minute to take a 1-0 lead. Guedes scored again in the first minute of stoppage time to secure a 2-0 lead and all three points for the Portuguese.
With one point through two games, the USMNT currently sit in last place in the tournament. Sweden leads with four points, followed by Portugal with three and Norway with two. The US can win the tournament with a four-goal win against Sweden on Tuesday and some help from a 0-0 draw between Portugal and Norway.
