SANDY, Utah – Grande Sports Academy and Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy forward/midfielder Edgar Duran has signed a contract with Real Monarchs, becoming the 24th alumni to sign a professional contract and the sixth to sign with the Monarchs.

Duran scored 24 goals in 42 games in his lone U.S. Soccer Development Academy season with Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy U-17/18, tying him for ninth in the country in goals scored.

The biggest highlight of Duran’s season came in RSL-AZ U-17/18’s 2-1 quarterfinal win over Shattuck-Saint Mary’s, when his two goals led the team to victory and his stoppage time winner landed at Number 7 in the SportsCenter Top 10.

“Being at Grande Sports Academy really improved my game,” said Duran. “Over the last year I learned to have a vision, believe in myself, always hustle and stay focused.”

Duran joins fellow Grande Sports Academy alumni Christian Herrera, Jose “Coco” Navarro, Maikon Orellana, Eti Tavares and Ricardo Velazco on the Monarchs roster as well as Real Salt Lake’s Lalo Fernandez, Justen Glad, Phanuel Kavita, Fito Ovalle and Sebastian Saucedo, who have played with the Monarchs this season.

The Grande Sports Academy staff wishes Edgar the best of luck as he takes the next step in his career and looks forward to seeing his continued success both on the field and in life.
