COQUITLAM, BC – Eric Carbajal’s 19th goal of the season looked to be enough for Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy U-17/18 to clinch first place in the Southwest Division, but a 96th minute goal for Vancouver scored by Matthew Chow ended the game in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Following a scoreless first half, Corey Baird assisted on the Eric Carbajal goal in the 65th minute, giving RSL-AZ the 1-0 lead. The team looked sure to come away with the three points after going deep into stoppage time without conceding, but Matthew Chow scored in the 96th minute off a cross to the back post, evening up the game at 1-1 and delaying RSL-AZ’s chance to clinch the Southwest Division.
Real Salt Lake-Arizona U-17/18 travelled to Portland on Sunday to take on the Portland Timbers at the Timbers Training Facility with another opportunity to wrap up the Southwest Division. Check back tomorrow for the match report for the U-17/18 team’s final game of the regular season.
