Casa Grande, AZ – Real Salt Lake U17 team enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at the 2014 Generation Adidas Cup tournament play. The challenge did fall short in the championship game when RSL was upset by Stoke City on a penalties kick by a score of 3 – 2.
The Generation Adidas Cup is tournament play for the MLS teams development academies. This is part of the ‘Home Grown’ initiative set by the MLS to provide elite youth soccer players an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The championship game ended regulation in a 1 – 1 and was forced to go to penalty kicks. This is where Stoke City gained the final advantage and had the Generation Adidas Cup championship in their hands.
RSL U17 team play through the tournament was very impressive. In 10 games, RSL U17 sent the soccer ball to the back of the net 34 times and only letting 12 touching theirs.
Topping off the tournament for RSL U17 team was when Sebastian Saucedo was awarded the tournament’s best player award the Golden Ball. Saucedo also garnered the Golden Boot as the top scorer of the tournament.
RSL U17 team make their home at Grande Sports World and the Real Salt Lake – AZ Development Soccer Academy. RSL – AZ plays in the United States Soccer Development Academy league where the elite US soccer clubs compete.
