RSL-AZ Academy Selected to Participate in 2011 Dallas Cup U19 Super Group

The Real Salt Lake-AZ Academy has been selected to participate in the 2011 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup International Youth Tournament.

Some of the most storied and prestigious clubs from around the world are also participating in the 2011 tournament, including:

Arsenal FC (England) – English Premier League Champions; first appearance at Dallas Cup
SC Corinthians (Brazil) – last appearance in tournament 2000
FC Barcelona (Spain) – winner of 20 Spanish league titles, 25 Spanish Cup titles, 3 UEFA Champions League titles; first appearance at Dallas Cup
“It is an honor to represent the United States and the US Soccer Development Academy in this year’s Dallas Cup,” said RSL-AZ Academy Director Mike Munoz. “This opportunity will give our boys great competition against elite clubs from all over the world by which we can measure ourselves, and it also affords many educational opportunities on-and-off the pitch.”

With FC Barcelona, Corinthians and Arsenal participating in this year’s tourney, it is shaping up to be the most impressive Super Group in the history of the Dallas Cup, the premier youth soccer tournament in the world.
The following Texas clubs also are playing in the U19 Super Group, including: FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo and the Dallas Texans (host of the tournament).
The RSL-AZ Academy U16 team also will compete in the U16 age bracket at the Dallas Cup.

Dallas Cup is the oldest international youth soccer tournament in the United States, celebrating its 30th year in 2009. Since its inception in 1980, Dallas Cup has played host to teams and referees from over 45 states, 100 countries and 6 continents. The tournament is held every spring from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
